By , February 16, 2008 12:00 am

DSC_0898.JPGI get to know of this place that offer beggar chicken from a TV show and word of mouth. Beside chicken, some other items on the menu are lamb, duck, pork trotter, fish, and fried noodles. Make sure you called for food reservation befor you go, else you will not be entertained at all.

Location:  It is located at Banting or to be exact, in Bukit Jugra, Banting, Selangor.
Tel: 03.3120.2515 (must call in 1-2 days in advance to order)
GPS coordinate:  N 2° 49′ 41.4″  E 101° 25′ 0.8″

Beggar’s Chicken as it is called. It is a direct translation from the Chinese word “叫化鸡”. The name comes from a story where in the early days in China, most beggar would not have the proper tools to remove the feathers of chicken, and what they did is to cover the chicken with mud and burned it in fire together with the mud. When the chicken is cooked, by removing the mud, the feather would come off too. Smart eh!! Eventually, I guess the people learned the trick and added Chinese herbs to give it a better flavor and taste.
This place is not easy to find without proper guidance. Fortunately I’ve a Garmin GPS unit loaded with the proper POI location. It brought me right in front of the “restaurant”.
Most of the food is cooked in charcoal, it is interesting to see how they are being done. They do allow you to visit the cooking area.
